My 101 Things in 1001 Days - 2011 edition
Instead of having a New Year's Resolution, I am using goals as a way to challenge myself. Below is my new list for January 2011 - October 2013
Finish auditing iOS development course
Attempt to write an iOS application
Become a paying member of Apple Developer program to enable testing of iOS app on actual devices
Take a cooking class
Keep a running budget of home finances
Pay off a student loan
Pay off a line of credit
Paint Master Bedroom
Remove Carpet in Master Bedroom
Put in laminate flooring in Master Bedroom
Attend GABF in Denver
Brew a batch of beer in a new style not attempted before from kit
Brew a batch of beer without a kit
Cook a meal made with a homebrew beer
Keep home computers in working order
Get new sofa for living room
Get paint for Morgan’s room
Get paint for Alex’s room
Put money away for Holiday Spending each year (Xmas Club)
Put money from each paycheck into long term savings
Take education class to learn a new technology
Make a trip back to Tupper Lake
Take a trip west of Mississippi River
Continue creative programs to get kids to help around the house (reward program vs allowance)
Give to Clarkson Alumni Fund
Volunteer in the community
Share classic movies with the kids
Help homeschool thrive as long as it is working for our family
Keep Domain names paid for and up to date
Have a monthly date night
Take a random day off to spend with the kids
Learn new meditation techniques
Take a trip to Washington DC
Dip toes in the Pacific Ocean
Continue year round CSA membership
call home once a month
Tell the kids “I love you” every day
Plan a menu to eat at home every night for two weeks and follow it
Bake a loaf of bread
Spend one night a week reading for one month
Freecycle something that you don’t need
Start each day being thankful for what you have
Design a brewery label
Come up with brewery name
Make sure animals get annual checkups
Keep a positive attitude about work, even under stress
Make time to each lunch during the work day
Find a new use for space in the den area
Be flexible about work direction without stressing out
Write a new poem
Write a short story
Drive more often
Put money into kids education accounts (goal of 1 year in-State tuition before they graduate)
Plant a garden
Cut land line and go wireless for phone
Upgrade home network
Upgrade Internet connection speeds
Contribute to an Open Source Project (code or money)
Eat at a new locally owned restaurant
Develop data backup plan for home computers
Brew a holiday batch of beer to share
Find time to bake Christmas cookies/share them
Smile more
Yell Less Often
Have a picnic at a local vineyard
Eat healthier snacks
Compost
Recycle as much as possible
Enjoy one on one time with each kid (Father/Son time, Daddy/Daughter time)
Go for a walk twice a week for at least a month
Take a Yoga class
Visit Memphis, eat on Beale St
Attend a music concert
Host a family gathering
Replace broken planks in the deck
Plant a fruit tree
Make sure dogs get heartguard meds monthly
Visit Dentist at least twice a year
Go to the doctor
Go to a Cubs game in Chicago
Attempt snowball method when paying down debts
Go one month without using a personal credit card
Take a day to think about items before making major purchases
Contribute to 401k account each check
Encourage kids to use new technology while keeping them safe online
Make cheese
Promote and Participate in Earth Hour
Blog more often
Write more meaningful Tweets
Cook in a new Cuisine style using local ingredients (Greek, Japanese, etc)
Do a random act of kindness
Join the Homebrewer’s Association
Become a “cord cutter” by finding alternative tv programming
Be a better leader by setting positive examples
A weekend away with just my wife
Try new foods at the farmer’s market
Practice better brewing techniques
Rotate menu plans to avoid the food rut
Publish this list online
Donate $2 for each missed goal to a local cause
When complete, create a new list at the beginning of the new year
