The journey begins
My book order from Amazon arrived on Tuesday, one day ahead of when they were scheduled. It was happiness to get them. On Wednesday, I was happy as a child at Christmas when my newly acquired MacBook was delivered by the mailman. I even went out to meet him to sign the form to bring it inside. Being that it was quite a hot day, I let the MacBook adjust to the household temperature before booting it up. It came with a base install of Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard. I spent the night adding the airport card to the router, downloading all the updated patches and getting the iLife components installed. I don't remember Apple putting so much into an update with the download being over 1.5 Gb! After that was all setup, I returned to the Apple website and downloaded the latest stable copy of Xcode 3.2 and the iPhone SDK.
My booklist included:
1. Beginning Mac Programming: Develop with Objective-C and Cocoa (Pragmatic Programmers Series) by Tom Isted
2. Cocoa and Objective-C: Up and Running by Scott Stevenson
3. Head First iPhone Development: A Learner's Guide to Creating Objective-C Applications for the iPhone by Dan and Tracey Pilone
4. iPhone Programming: The Big Nerd Ranch Guide by Aaron Hillegass and Joe Conway
There are a lot of house projects going on right now so I don't know when I will be able to make my first real attempts. I will continue to try and document the experience while I work through it.
