Brave Parenting

Last night we had a slumber party for my daugter's sixth birthday party. At the party we had 5 children (3,4,5,6, and 7 years old) along with having to get up and work in the middle of the night. It ended up being a really good time. We let the kids start out by opening the gifts, then we let them make their own pizza's (english muffin pizza's) and decorate their own cupcakes. In order to wear down the sugar, we played Dance Dance Revlutions Extreme on the Playstation 2 and they had fun. To close out the night we let them do a craft project of sand bottles and suncatchers. To help them fall asleep, we put in Josie and the Pussycats.

A fun filled night for all involved.

Lost Traditions

Today I was able to take part in a ceremony for a young man walking along the path to adulthood. It seems that our society in general has forgotten how to celebrate coming of age in a person. Some religous cultures like mine, as well as the Jewish paths remember how to do this best. Today we did a Pagan Manhood Ceremony for the first boy in our circle to turn 13 years of age. The ceremony was held in mixed company and was very emotionally charged. It was a great honor to be part of this occasion. I think that we could help out a lot of young children in this day and age, if we took the time out of our overly scheduled lives and celebrated these steps along the way.
